A portrait of Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi (1743-1819), painted in 1830, is often mistaken for a portrait of Immanuel Kant. If you see a portrait of a very handsome Kant, it is very likely that it is not Kant at all. The German philosopher Jacobi lived around the same time (he was 19 years younger than Kant). He even engaged in a correspondence polemic with Kant. It has come to the point that a portrait of Jacobi is often inserted in articles on the subject of Kant. Furthermore, this error can even be found on the covers of some books. We therefore advise you to be vigilant.
