IKBFU Digitised Kant’s 250 Anniversary Photo Collection

The Cultural and Educational Center of IKBFU has digitised two Kalinigrad State University’s photo collections related to the 250th anniversary of Immanuel Kant.

One collection is dedicated to Kant's biography, his key ideas, debates with French and German philosophers, and the meeting with Nikolai Karamzin.

Nikolai Karamzin on Immanuel Kant:
Kant speaks rapidly, very quietly and not clearly; as a result, I need to mobilise all my auditory nerves to listen. His house is small and inside there are few furnishings. Everything is simple, except… his metaphysics.

The other collection includes the proceedings of a scientific conference, as well as materials from a student conference held in April 1974, a brief overview of the presentations and a photo chronicle. From 26 to 27 April 1974 the first Kant Readings, which brought together leading Kant scholars of the USSR, took place. At the same time the Immanuel Kant museum was opened within the framework of the forum.

Kant's hypothesis of the origin of the universe was highly praised by Friedrich Engels, who recognised that Kant's historical perspective on the formation of the solar system was groundbreaking and revolutionary, surpassing the constraints of traditional metaphysical beliefs.
